Wa-Ga   Wa-Ga  

★  Some words of Germanic origin borrowed by French had their initial syllable changed from 'wa-' to 'ga-'. Some of these words were later borrowed by English with their new French form. Hence 'wage' (the original Anglo-Saxon (Germanic) word) and 'gage' (the French version borrowed by English).
★  Certains mots d'origine germanique empruntés par le français ont vu leur syllabe initiale en 'wa-' changée en 'ga-'. À leur tour, certains de ces mots ont été empruntés par l'anglais sous leur nouvelle forme française. D'où les doublets anglais 'wage' (mot d'origine germanique transmis en ligne directe) et 'gage' (mot d'origine germanique transmis à travers le français).
